Dear ACT Families: For our next critical thinking STEM project, we will be designing Paper Plate Marble Mazes. Below are some of just the many creative examples of what the ACT students will be creating! In order to complete this, we do need some donations. Please see if you have any extras of these supplies that you wouldn’t mind donating! As always, thank you so much for your help and support! Possible Supplies:
Thank you for your help! Mrs. Dooley Dear 4th Grade ACT Students and Parents: We have been busy reading The View From Saturday by E.L. Konigsburg in class. This is part of our Critical Thinking Curriculum. The students have been analyzing characters at a high critical thinking level by identifying character changes, analyzing the causes of those changes, and predicting how those changes will affect the rest of the plot and other characters too. We have been looking for SIGNPOSTS as we read! There are 6 signposts. These are moments in the story where the students should recognize they are occurring, stop reading, and push their thinking to a new level. So far, we have practiced looking for Contrasts and Contradictions (CC's) and Aha Moments. By being aware of these moments in the story, the students are able to ask "Why is this change occurring?" and "How will this realization the character is having change things?". These questions rocket launch the students' thinking into higher levels of critical analysis in an authentic way! Here are some of the videos explaining the two signposts we have studied already. We have 4 more to go! The students are working on transferring this strategy into their blog posts for Camp Read-A-Lot too! |
