What is the "Book Blog"?
Your blog entry will be a letter to the author(s) of the book you’ve just read. In this letter you will be required to have the following:
To help us keep track of our reading journey this year, we will be blogging about our books. After you read a book, you will use our Kidblog.org website to begin your blog entry. Please see the FAQs below for specifics about our Book Blogging Project for Camp Read-A-Lot!
What blogging website will we use?
We will be using Kidblog.org for our blogging platform. This is a website built for teachers to create safe and completely password protected environments for students in their classes only. Parents may login to their child's account to see their work at any time. The website has security settings which require the teacher approve all posts and comments before they are posted on the blogging site. There will be a strict policy enforced for our blogging users. If anyone chooses to use the blogging site in ways other than its intended use to create a collaborative, positive environment which promotes growth for all as readers and writers, they will be removed from the site and have to complete the project non-digitally through a physical notebook turned in to the teacher.
What should be included in the blog entry?
Your blog entry will be a letter to the author(s) of the book you’ve just read. In this letter you will be required to have the following:
What should NOT be included in your blog entry?
Your blog entry should not be a simple summary of the story. This is “within” the text thinking and we are trying to GROW and STRETCH our thinking. You may need to include some pieces of summary as evidence or explanation. You also, do not want to give away too many major pieces of the plot (especially the ending) as your peers will be your audience and may be persuaded to read the story based on your letter!
Do I need to complete a book blog entry to earn a "bead" for Camp Read-A-Lot?
Yes! You as part of the requirements on the "bead request form" you will see that you must complete a blog entry to track our progress throughout the year for the many amazing books and challenges you've accepted and surpassed on our reading journey. You will also be blogging for a live audience: your classmates! Your classmates will be able to read your posts and leave comments. This will be a wonderful portfolio of your reading throughout the year.

Your blog entry will be a letter to the author(s) of the book you’ve just read. In this letter you will be required to have the following:
- Title, Book Author, Genre
- 2 Stars
- These are two pieces of the story (plot, character, author’s craft choices, setting, conflicts, themes etc.) that you enjoyed about the book with a brief description of why.
- 1 Wish
- This is one thing that you wish the author had done. It does not have to be a focus on a negative aspect of the book, but it can be. For example, maybe you wished that the author had the character make a different choice. Maybe you wished that the author had made a problem more challenging to solve or an aspect of the book to be less predictable. Maybe you wish that the author would write a sequel telling an aspect of the story that you were left hanging on to at the conclusion of the book. You will write a brief explanation of your thinking behind your wish.
